The Lexus PHEV range combines petrol with a rechargeable EV battery and cleverly self-charges while you drive using the regenerative braking system or at a wall box charging point.
There are two power sources in a plug-in hybrid Lexus: a combustion petrol engine and a rechargeable electric battery.
When fully charged, it operates in pure electric mode (EV mode), but for maximum efficiency when the battery is low, it mixes petrol with the Lexus self-charging hybrid technology. Because the battery is bigger than in the typical Lexus hybrids, it has the advantage of being able to run for longer on just electric power.
The battery can be recharged either at home or at one of the thousands of charging stations spread across the UK network, using the hybrid system or by connecting to an energy source. The Lexus plug-in hybrid range is therefore cheaper to run and also has fewer emissions.
