As an EV, the new BYD Atto 3 looks to offer innovative solutions to pure-electric driving.
The Chinese marque employs its ‘blade’ EV technology on the new Atto 3 - just like it does across its whole EV range - helping to package its battery in a way to save space and weight.
As a result, you get an 800V setup that allows for ultra-rapid charging of its 60.5kWh battery to deliver a range of up to 260 miles on a full charge.
Charging at home will take just under 10 hours from empty to full, while a 100kW rapid charger can achieve a 10-80% charge in just under 45 minutes.
It’s safe to say that, with the Atto 3, BYD went for a mixture of approaches when it came to design - the mid-size SUV’s exterior offers sleek, clean lines for a modest look, while the cabin brings about splashes of colour and fearless flourishes.
Bringing it back to BYD’s innovative ‘blade’ battery concept, it’s inside the new Atto 3 where you can feel additional benefits, with passenger space maximised, and head and leg room plentiful.
Those on board will likely also enjoy the Atto 3’s panoramic glass roof that comes fitted as standard, with the cabin encapsulated in light for an airy feel.
A 440-litre boot is on offer, which extends to a useful 1,340 litres with the rear bench folded down.
BYD has ensured all your in-car needs are on the Atto 3’s central infotainment screen, that can be positioned in either portrait or landscape.
On the Active and Comfort trims, the system offers a 12.8in screen size, while the top Design trim bolsters this to 15.6in, with both versions bringing a responsive hub for many of the car’s features.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both available on any trim level, while additional connected services are provided, with BYD offering two years’ worth of free over-the-air updates.
The new Atto 3 also comes loaded with safety tech, including blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise with lane and traffic-sign assist, forward-collision alert and rear traffic warning. Meanwhile, the SUV has also received a five-star crash safety rating from Euro NCAP.
