Range, battery & charging
The BYD Seal range is very straightforward, offering the same 82.5kWh battery configuration across two drivetrain options - rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
The former offers a range of up to 354 miles on a full charge, while the AWD derivative is a touch below that with a range of up to 323 miles.
When rapid charging the Seal, you’ll be able to achieve a 10-80% charge in just under 40 minutes.
When charging at home from empty on a 7kw charger, you’ll need around 13 hours to get to a full charge.
Performance
In a similar vein to the Sealion 7, the BYD Seal offers plenty of performance on tap from both versions.
The Seal’s entry-level offering was the first of BYD’s rear-wheel drive cars, and brings a very useful 308bhp allowing for a 0-62mph sprint of just 5.9secs.
However, the Excellence AWD option ups the ante and produces 523bhp to get you from standstill to 62mph in a mere 3.8secs - this version of the Seal even has a dedicated launch control mode.
Another bonus of the AWD Seal is that it comes with an adaptive suspension setup as standard for a very focused feel on the road.
Design
BYD has designed the Seal to have air flow around it for maximum efficiency, and it’s this approach that makes this EV saloon look so sleek - the Seal even took home the coveted iF Design Award in 2023.
The quality continues inside, with the Seal’s cabin exuding quality and offering a feel of sportiness. A panoramic glass roof, meanwhile, ensures the Seal is adorned by natural light.
As with all BYD cars, the Seal benefits from the 15.6-in Intelligent-Rotate infotainment that takes centre stage in the saloon’s cabin and gives you access to the vast majority of the Seal’s facilities.
From a practicality point of view, the Seal offers a 400-litre capacity boot, as well as a 53-litre boot at the front, great for storing your charge cables.
Tech & Safety
The BYD Seal’s infotainment unit is home to a huge array of features, including smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto usage. It is superbly responsive and offers useful shortcuts to the most commonly used features.
Meanwhile, a brilliant 12-speaker audio system from Dynaudio brings plenty of power and quality to the cabin.
Behind the scenes, the BYD Seal makes use of the iTAC (intelligence Torque Adaption Control) system, which helps to allocate torque in a way that aids with driving in tough road conditions.
Additionally, a five-star Euro NCAP rating ensures peace of mind that the BYD Seal is built in a truly safe manner.
